In September 2023 we received an exciting email, stating that we had been shortlisted as a finalist for the West Midlands Tourism awards in the New Tourism Business of the Year category. To be nominated for these prestigious awards is an achievement in its own right; each year businesses, venues, and events across the region pitch their case with fingers crossed to be considered and we were honoured to be amongst the chosen finalists.
Our excitement went hand-in-hand with trepidation, as we were forewarned that all shortlisted businesses would have a ‘mystery shopper’ visit by a member of the judging panel. Despite having a busy few months, we were confident that our team of staff and volunteers would continue to deliver excellent customer service and share our rich history with enthusiasm to any and all visitors.
The awards evening was held at the Bear Grylls Adventure – a fabulously unique venue, complete with a shark tank and scuba divers! Our team representatives enjoyed an evening of mingling with like-minded individuals from an array of local businesses, along with praise for our collective work from guest speaker Mayor Andy Street. Then came the nail-biting countdown as winners were announced for each category.
New Tourism Business Award finalists, Kin Kitchen, Marrington Escapes, and West Midlands Police Museum.
Our quiet confidence turned to palpable nervousness as the winning envelope was opened – giving way to elation as the West Midlands Police Museum was announced as the winner!
It was an amazing privilege to be recognised by the WM Tourism Awards, it shows that our hard work is paying off. I know the detail that went into judging including a site visit and checks of our online reviews, and therefore it’s clear the fantastic visitor experience given by our volunteers has played a huge part. I’m so proud of the amazing team effort.
