Collapsed and died on his way home from duty - aged 52

Killed by a train whilst on special protection duty at New Street station - aged 53

Accidentally struck by a train whilst on protection duty at a railway tunnel - aged 54

Fatally injured in a fall off a ladder while cleaning the station windows - aged 52

William Smith 11th June 1903

Smith came on to do duty at 6pm seemingly in good health and was posted to his beat in Great Tindal Street, when several officers noticed that he had stumbled. When they went to his assistance he shouted ‘Oh oh’ and died. Death was due to heart failure - aged 37

Whilst searching a prisoner at the Dudley Road Lock-up Tye suddenly 'fell to the floor and became insensible. The surgeon was called but all he could do was pronouce life extinct. Tye had been under medical treatment - aged 52

Whilst of unsound mind following the death of his child, drowned himself in the canal whilst on duty - aged 28

After detaining an aggressive prisoner in the Moseley Street lock-up with a fellow officer, he collapsed and died - aged 28

Supervising fire escape being fixed at Duke Street. Once work was complete he hoisted the escape into the air but upon reaching the top the ladder overbalanced, throwing him to his death - aged 47

Whilst on duty at a concert hall he was crushed by a stampede when trying to help evacuate the hall following a fire being spotted - aged 48
