The West Midlands Police Museum is thrilled to announce an exclusive exhibition, Fashion Police: Uniforms Through the Ages — a captivating blend of history, culture, and design.
Last week the Museum hosted a “sneak-peak event” with our volunteers to celebrate the timeless evolution of police uniforms and the rich stories woven into every thread.
The Fashion Police project has been created in partnership with Birmingham City University and proudly funded by the National Heritage Lottery Fund.
By combining physical recreations with personal accounts of officers who lived and served in the West Midlands, Fashion Police aims to highlight the people who make the police and how their experiences shaped their lives.
The exhibit is now open to the public over the summer holidays, with plans for exciting interactive displays, digital archives, and outreach to local schools.
A heartfelt thanks to the brilliant students who helped bring this project to life. Their creativity and dedication have helped stitch together a showcase that’s as stylish as it is historically significant.
Whether you’re a fashion enthusiast, history lover, or curious mind, Fashion Police promises a moment to reflect, learn, and appreciate how uniforms have shaped the policing identity over time.
Speaking at the launch, Heritage Manager Corinne Brazier said: “It’s vital that we find fresh and engaging ways to connect people with over 200 years of policing history.
“This exhibition represents months of hard work, detailed research, and true collaboration. Each recreated uniform tells a powerful story — not just of policing, but of the communities we serve.”
Thanks to players of the National Lottery, the West Midlands Police Museum is now home to some truly exciting exhibits that bring our region’s policing history to life. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to showcase the stories that matter and celebrate our community’s heritage.
